He quits the job and begins a journey of exploring the world of magic with the book. All his plans go awry when a group of pirates forcibly recruits him as a cook and he is made to take part in robbing a village and kidnapping the village chief and his daughter, Mariam. Mat escapes with Mariam and teams up with a band of colourful villagers to rescue the village chief from the pirates’ hideout.
